Body Lift after Weight Loss
The Body lift is a plastic surgery procedure aimed to tighten, tone and lift the tummy, buttocks, breasts, arms and thighs. Excess sagging fat and skin are removed to treat conditions caused in part by poor tissue elasticity. A well-toned body with smooth contours is a sign of fitness achieved by healthy diet and exercise.
In many cases, exercise cannot always achieve desired results for people who have loose, sagging skin and uneven contours. Aging, sun damage, pregnancy and significant fluctuations in weight as well as genetic factors may contribute to poor tissue elasticity and can result in sagging of the abdomen, buttocks, thighs and upper arms.
Post Weight Loss Surgery (Bariatric Surgery)
Loose skin is almost always true after weight loss surgery like gastric banding, gastric balloon or gastric sleeve surgery (collectively known as bariatric surgery). If you have undergone this type of weight loss surgery in Kenya or overseas, you might find an amazing change in weight over time. When the skin now becomes loose because you have lost all that fat, a body lift will help to rebalance your body.
In a body lift, excess sagging fat and skin are removed – and it can also improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface, commonly known as cellulite. Dr Stasch will assess all areas of your body that are of concern for you – and then come up with a plan on how to best perform the surgery, which in most cases will be staged – several surgery sessions might be necessary.
Body Lift May Include These Areas And Procedures
- Abdominal area, locally or extending around the sides and into the lower back area might benefit from a tummy tuck and backlift.
- Buttocks, that may be low, flat or shaped unevenly, can be rejuvenated with a buttlift or fatgrafting.
- Pubic area, where skin excess may obstruct your genital area which can be relieved with a pubic lift.
- Thighs, including the inner, outer, or posterior thigh, or circumferentially can be addressed with a thigh lift.
- Chest and breast which may be saggy and need a breast lift.
- Lateral chest – excess skin can cause many folds which extend form side to side, and along the back.
- Upper arm lift – saggy skin and fat.
- Face and neck – in some circumstances, a face- and necklift or fatgrafting may rebalance your face.
What It Won’t Do
- Reduce your weight when you are overweight and havent tried diet, exercise or bariatric surgery.
- Body lifts are not intended strictly for the removal of excess fat.
- Liposuction alone can remove excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity and is able to naturally conform to new body contours..
- In cases where skin elasticity is poor, a combination of liposuction and body lift techniques may be recommended.

Losing weight is a long journey – be it through exercise and diet, or after bariatric surgery like gastric banding or gastric bypass surgery. When the patient has reached his or her ideal weight, loose skin is often the problem which can make life difficult. A bodylift after bariatric surgery can include a tummy tuck, back lift, buttlift, thigh lift, breast lift, arm lift, liposuction, fatgrafting, and many more. It may take several procedures to treat the whole body, but this can be discussed during the consultation.
Incisions for a total bod Lift after bariatric surgery / gastric bypass or ballon will depend on exactly what procedures are planned. Dr. Stasch will show you past pictures of patients who already had the op, and show you on your body, where the lines will likely be. Interestingly, scars are usually not a problem or complaint after Bodylift surgery.
It can sometimes take 3-4 ops for a total Bodylift, but the exact opes can be discussed and mapped out with full quotations and prices during consultation.
Yes liposuction and liposculpture usually forms part of a successful Body Lift.
Usually, we only keep our patients for 1 or 2 nights. If the patient is more comfortable to stay for longer, we allow this, but always encourage early walking and not staying in bed, to speed up recovery and avoid complications.
